England’s Win over Pakistan Advances Standings by 93 Runs

Pakistan’s bid for victory fell short as they were bowled out for 244 runs in 43.3 overs in pursuit of 338 against England on Saturday. The loss means Pakistan has been eliminated from the 2023 World Cup, failing to secure a spot in the Top 4 of the points table.

Facing a challenging task, Pakistan needed to bat first, score a significant number of runs, and secure a victory by at least 275 runs. However, luck was not on their side as England batted first and set a formidable total of 337/9 in 50 overs.

Despite Agha Salman’s commendable contribution of 51 runs off 45 balls, the rest of the team failed to make a significant impact as they faltered in their pursuit of victory. England’s 93-run victory secured their position in the seventh spot of the points table and earned them a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Pakistan finished fifth in the standings, winning only four out of their nine matches in the league round. Their net run rate took a hit, dropping from +0.036 to -0.105 after the defeat against England. Meanwhile, New Zealand secured a spot in the semifinals due to England’s win and will now face the leaders and hosts, India.

Additionally, on the same day, Australia secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh at the MCA Stadium in Pune, with Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten knock of 177 runs leading the way.
