Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were surprisingly dropped from the Indian T20I squad for the series against Afghanistan, starting January 11. Their exclusion raised eyebrows, as they were expected to be part of India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
The omission of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the 16-man squad for the Afghanistan T20I series came as a surprise, with social media buzzing with the news. Before being left out, Ishan withdrew from the South Africa Test series due to personal reasons, while Shreyas struggled with his performance.
According to a report, Ishan Kishan’s involvement in social activities with MS Dhoni and appearance on a TV quiz show raised disciplinary concerns, leading to his exclusion from the T20I squad. On the other hand, Shreyas’ shot selection in the South Africa series disappointed selectors, and his decision to request time off from playing in the Ranji Trophy further led to his exclusion.
Despite the setbacks, Shreyas later made himself available for the Ranji game against Andhra Pradesh, and selectors are happy with the commitment shown by Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill, hinting at a future opportunity for Singh in the traditional format.
