Former Australian captain Ian Chappell has criticized Team India’s squad selection for the ongoing England series, particularly targeting struggling batsman Shreyas Iyer. Iyer has been left out of the 17-member Indian squad for the final three Tests due to poor form and injury concerns. With only 104 runs in the two Tests, Iyer’s average stands at 26. Chappell believes that the return of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will strengthen the team, expressing satisfaction with the decision to drop Iyer. Rahul and Jadeja were sidelined with injuries in the second Test, while Virat Kohli was absent from both opening games. Kohli will continue to be absent due to personal reasons. Chappell also believes that England’s captain Ben Stokes will benefit the team by resuming his bowling and fielding, as his performance with the bat has been inconsistent. Despite his impressive Test wicket tally, Stokes’ batting average has been in the mid-30s with only three centuries in 32 matches.
