Mary Kom is the first female boxer in history to have captured six world titles. The five-time Asian champion was the first female boxer from India to take home a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games. On Wednesday, the six-time World Champion and 2012 Olympic medallist announced her retirement from boxing due to the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) rule that allows male and female boxers to fight in elite-level competition only until the age of 40. Mary, 41, expressed her desire to continue competing at the elite level but acknowledged that she has to retire due to the age limit. She mentioned that she had achieved everything in her career. Mary has had a successful career, winning a bronze medal in the London 2012 Olympic Games and becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She has won numerous world titles and medals throughout her career, marking her as a dominant force in women’s boxing.
