Virat Kohli made history by scoring his 50th century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final match between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This achievement surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 49 centuries, making Kohli the player with the most centuries in this format. Before this, Tendulkar was the only player to have reached 49 centuries in ODI cricket, achieving this milestone on March 16, 2012, during a match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. Kohli’s exceptional performance has also seen him surpass Ricky Ponting’s record of 13,704 runs in the format, placing him second only to Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara in terms of ODI runs. Furthermore, Kohli achieved another milestone by hitting his 150th six in ODIs, joining an elite group of Indian cricketers with this accomplishment.
