India’s Hopes Dashed as Key Player Likely to Sit Out Last 3 Tests against England

Shreyas Iyer, Indian cricket team batter, may miss the last three Tests against England due to injuries. Back stiffness and groin pain while batting might keep him out of the remaining matches, with his equipment sent to his home in Mumbai instead of being with the rest of the players’ kits in Rajkot. Iyer is expected to undergo a rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, following back surgery in 2023 and concerns about his fitness with the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

A source informed The Indian Express that Iyer has been experiencing stiffness in his back after playing more than 30 balls, along with pain in his groin while playing forward defense. Post-surgery, he has been advised to rest for a few weeks and will later head to NCA.

As for Virat, a report in the Indian Express states that he has not communicated to the BCCI about his return, but he will be included in the team once he is ready. The BCCI has extended its support to Kohli after he opted out of the first two Tests, respecting his decision due to personal situations demanding his presence and undivided attention.
