PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf Makes Bold Move Following the World Cup Disappointment of Babar Azam and Co

After the disappointing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 performance, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) swiftly took action on November 14 by dismissing the entire selection committee responsible for choosing the squad, as reported by Samaa TV. Chairman Zaka Ashraf sacked the committee, which included Tauseef Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti, and Wasim Haider.

The PCB is expected to announce a new selection committee soon, with the task of selecting the squad for the upcoming Pakistan tour of Australia. Chairman Zaka Ashraf also met with former cricketers Mohammad Hafeez, Sohail Tanvir, and Wahab Riaz at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned as chief selector during the World Cup, and bowling coach Morne Morkel also stepped down after Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.

Rumors suggest that Babar Azam may be removed as captain, with Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shan Masood as potential replacements for the red-ball format, and Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan for other formats.

The upcoming Pakistan tour of Australia begins with a warm-up match against Prime Ministers XI on December 6, followed by a Test series starting on December 14 at Perth Stadium. Pakistan currently leads the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, with the upcoming series against the defending champions being crucial for their championship race.
