In a viral video, former Pakistan team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq claimed that Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian bowler, was close to converting to Islam after listening to Maulana Tariq Jameel. This claim angered Harbhajan Singh, who took to social media to lash out at Inzamam-ul-Haq. In the video, Inzamam-ul-Haq mentioned that Harbhajan Singh expressed admiration for Maulana Tariq Jameel and wanted to follow his words, not realizing that Jameel was a religious leader. Inzamam-ul-Haq also claimed that he and other cricketers would pray with Jameel, and Harbhajan Singh allegedly said to him, “Tumhe dekhke ruk jaata hu” (I stop after seeing you), to which Inzamam-ul-Haq replied, “Mujhe dekhke kyu ruk jaate ho?” (Why do you stop after seeing me?) Harbhajan Singh debunked these claims and reaffirmed his pride in being Indian and Sikh. The two countries have had political tensions, and have only played each other in ICC events since 2012. India recently beat Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.
