Kishan had requested a break due to mental exhaustion after the South Africa tour, but despite expressing a desire to play in the Test matches, his break was denied, and he was removed from the Test squad. He made himself available for the T20Is against Afghanistan but was not selected. The head coach, Dravid, stated that Kishan needs to perform in domestic cricket before being considered for national team selection.
