Mohammad Amir turned down the offer from Mohammad Hafeez to return to the Pakistan national team, choosing to remain retired from international cricket. Hafeez, the newly appointed director of Pakistan men’s cricket, reached out to Amir in hopes of convincing him to come back through domestic cricket. However, Amir declined the invitation, sticking to his decision to retire from Test cricket in 2019 and all formats in the following year. Mental stress and taunts were cited as reasons for his initial retirement, and since then, Amir has been involved in punditry and various T20 leagues.
Hafeez disclosed in a press conference that he personally called Amir to invite him back to the national team, making it clear that performance in domestic cricket would be the only consideration. Amir, however, informed Hafeez that he had moved on and had no intention of returning. With 259 international wickets to his name, including 119 in Tests, 81 in ODIs, and 59 in T20Is, Amir’s decision to stay retired seems final despite the recent offer from cricketing authorities.
